reconstructed tower
@Reconstructed tower
Based on the drawing on the pottery excavated during the 47th excavation, the Tower was reconstructed at the southwest corner of the Karako pond in 1994. We selected the corner because all of remains had already excavated before World War II so that there was no problem in conserving the Site.
The Tower is a two-story building of 12.5-meter height with dimensions of 4 meters x 5 meters. Four main pillars are of a kind of cedar and 50 centimeters in diameter. It has a thatched roof, which is held in place by logs like the spokes of a wheel. Outer walls are of wickerwork, and inner walls are board-lined.
The most prominent characteristics of the buildings in the Karako-Kagi Site are spiral decoration on the roof. It was made of wisteria wine and ladders were carved. We interpreted the three reverse S-shaped lines on the roof drawn on the pottery as migratory birds. Three wooden birds are put each on the east and west sides of the Tower.
